RUMORS OF MY DEMISE HAVE BEEN- sike, nah. You gotta be known for people to spread rumors about you. I had to lead with something hooky. It’s nearly 1 a.m. on New Year’s Eve as I type this. I think, type, delete and try once more to conjure up the first piece of content on this site in half a year. My last post before this did focus on stepping away from something to reset. Ironically, I didn’t expect to go silent as long as I did.
There was no single world-crushing event or psychotropic-induced epiphany. But over the time between late June and now, I made a personal vow to Get My Shit Together™. The ol’ “What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?” speech could not serve as motivation again because I managed to skate by after hearing that before. I had to be more disappointed than my loved ones to really change my situation. Three main factors made the long layoff (and this new NYE song) necessary.
- I was running out of creative ammo to push the year-old Searching The Signals. Everything for my first commercial release came out much later than I had initally hoped. Maybe plan better next project?
- Lack of time. I had to dedicate time to picking up extra work and developing skills for a career shift. (No, Token Genius was never Plan A or B. I just enjoy making stuff, OK?)
- This was the kicker. Number two can be isolating at times so I made it a priority to reach out every once in a while. Unfortunately phone calls and text messages without responses had been adding up since spring. And in my experience, social media was always the digital equivalent of passing nods and never worked for real convo.
“Acquaintance” is both a farewell and a re-introduction. I say goodbye to 2018 and “Hello again” to this creative outlet that gets ideas out of my head and gets me out of my own head altogether. Oh, and for those of you reading- Happy New Year!
Pleased to meet you,
