For the third installment of TG* TV I wanted to start looking outside the sphere of rap instrumentals. With the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer sparking reaction worldwide, the climactic back half of Lorde’s “Sober II (Melodrama)” emulated many of our emotions boiling over. My verse over “Sober II” represents the aftermath of seeing authority figures execute yet another person of color in front of all of us. No melodrama here though. The threat that systemic racism poses to people like me is a sobering reality.
